Prasert Affirms Integrity in MOU Signing with Ben Smith, Believes Political Discredit Attempt During Election

Prasert revealed he has not yet received a summons from the DSI regarding Ben Smith's presence in the MOU signing frame with a Singaporean company. He said he was only a witness, affirmed his innocence without any concealment, and is prepared to provide clarification. He believes there is an attempt to politically discredit him.

On 22 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Mr. Prasert Chantraruangthong, Secretary-General of the Pheu Thai Party, spoke about the case where the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) plans to summon officials regarding the MOU signing between the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society and Prime Opportunity Fund VCC from Singapore. The photos show Mr. Ben Smith present during the event. The DSI intends to summon the Permanent Secretary and the then-Minister for questioning.

Mr. Prasert stated that so far he has not been contacted by the DSI to provide additional information or clarification. He explained that when signing MOUs or agreements with ministries, the details are reviewed to determine their feasibility, with oversight from government agencies including the Council of State, the Office of the Attorney General, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Only after thorough review can the signing proceed, and the relevant agencies—namely the Office of the Permanent Secretary—are notified. He confirmed that all procedures comply with legal steps and affirmed his innocence with no concealment.

Mr. Prasert added that he does not know how Mr. Ben Smith appeared at the MOU signing event, as he himself attended only as a witness. The signing was conducted by government officials—the Permanent Secretary and representatives from the Singapore company. Each year, the ministry signs many MOUs with various agencies, both public and private, domestic and international.

"I do not personally know Mr. Ben Smith, and during the MOU signing we did not have any conversation. I attended as a witness that day while working at the ministry. The Permanent Secretary invited me to be a witness for the MOU signing. I confirm there are no other issues," he said. Mr. Prasert said.

When asked if, given the election period, he sees this issue being linked to politics, "I believe that ill-wishers are trying to politicize this matter during the election period, aiming to discredit the opposition and cause damage without factual basis. This needs to be handled carefully because I do not want this to become a political issue. I confirm I am ready to clarify with the DSI if summoned," he said. Mr. Prasert said.
