Watchara confirms the Democrat Party has nominated him to run for MP in Surat Thani District 1 but questions senior leaders' order to move the primary vote to District 4, though he believes the vote count does not determine the final selection.
At 15:10 on 22 Dec 2025 GMT+7, at the Democrat Party headquarters, Watchara Petchthong, the prospective MP candidate for Surat Thani, addressed rumors that he would not run for MP in Surat Thani District 1 for the Democrat Party. He affirmed that Mr. Chaiwut Bannawat, the party secretary-general, and Mr. Chaiyana Deddecho, deputy party leader overseeing the southern region, confirmed to him that he should officially run for MP.Surat Thanifor the Democrat Party in District 1.
Regarding the primary vote, he was instead proposed to hold it in District 4, which lies outside District 1. Normally, for every general election in Surat Thani Province,District 1is always the area where the primary vote is held. However, this time, some senior party members requested that he hold the primary vote in District 4, a newly established electoral district, only a week old. This is despite District 1 having no fewer than 1,200 Democrat Party members and being located in the heart of Surat Thani.
"For us members of the Democrat Party, when senior leaders ask us to hold a primary vote in District 4, an area where I do not even know any party members, we accept it humbly. This is because I am confident that we, the Democrats, share unity and harmony, and the votes from the primary do not definitively determine that the first, second, or third place finishers will always be selected or endorsed by the party's executive committee to run as MPs," said Watchara. .
