Sihasak Emphasizes No Political Ambition Reveals Anutin Never Approached Him as Bhumjaithai Prime Minister Candidate

Sihasak revealed that Anutin never approached him as a Bhumjaithai prime minister candidate, stating there are already two options. He emphasized he has no political ambitions but desires to work in foreign affairs instead.

On 23 Dec 2025 GMT+7 at the Government House, Mr. Sihasak Puangketkaew, Minister of Foreign Affairs, addressed rumors about being a Bhumjaithai prime minister candidate following a poster inviting the public to a policy announcement on 24 Dec, which showed him standing alongside Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, the party leader, together with Mr. Akniti Nitithanprapas. Mr. Sihasak said: "No, I am not. I am mainly responsible for foreign affairs, which is my role."

When asked if the Bhumjaithai party’s prime minister candidate has been finalized, Mr. Sihasak said: "I suppose the prime minister is still considering." Asked whether the candidates are Mr. Akniti and Ms. Suphajee Suthammanun, Mr. Sihasak said they should be asked directly.

Mr. Sihasak stated he has no political ambitions and will observe the situation. Regarding whether Anutin ever approached him to be a prime minister candidate, he said no such approach has occurred because he understands there are already two candidates.
When asked again if he would return as foreign minister should Bhumjaithai lead the next coalition government, Mr. Sihasak replied he did not know but currently oversees foreign affairs.

Meanwhile, Mr. Akniti, entering Building 1 of the Government House, declined to comment on the matter, as he was engaged in a phone conversation.

Mr. Anutin also refused to answer media questions about who the Bhumjaithai prime minister candidate is. When reporters showed him the promotional image for the policy announcement on 24 Dec and asked him to point out the candidate, he made a pointing gesture but gave no response.

Reporters then asked Ms. Sabida Thaiset, Minister of Culture, who was present with Mr. Anutin and also featured in the promotional image, whether she was a prime minister candidate. Ms. Sabida raised her hand to deny, saying, "No."
