Cabinet Approves 846 Million Baht Budget for Police to Purchase X-Ray Vehicles to Detect Narcotics

The Cabinet meeting resolved to approve a budget of 846 million baht to support the police in purchasing X-ray vehicles to enhance their capacity to detect narcotics and illegal items.

On 23 Dec 2025 GMT+7, at the Government House, Mr. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, announced the Cabinet meeting outcome that approved a budget request for fiscal year 2026, allocating 846 million baht from the central contingency fund for emergency or urgent cases, to cover expenses for the X-ray vehicle inspection project using both transmission and backscatter systems.

These vehicles (Z-Backscatter & Transmission Vehicle) will be acquired by the Royal Thai Police, totaling three units.

This follows attempts to smuggle narcotics into the northern zone, with the Royal Thai Police reporting insufficient and inconvenient inspection equipment. The new vehicles will enhance capability and accuracy in searching and inspecting narcotics, suspicious vehicles, hazardous materials, and other illegal items.

The Prime Minister ordered that all procedures comply carefully with government regulations and instructed the Budget Bureau to recheck prices. Since this is the dissolution period of the parliament, the matter must be reported to and reviewed by the Election Commission.
