Trinuch dispels rumors of withdrawing as PPRP prime minister candidate, confirms she is not leaving. She says to wait for confirmation directly from 'Uncle Pom' regarding his political exit. She insists that whatever happens, PPRP must move on and hints that everything will be clear this afternoon.
At 10:40 a.m. on 24 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Ms. Trinuch Thienthong, Minister of Labour and secretary-general of the Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP), spoke by phone about speculation that she might withdraw from the party's prime minister candidacy. She confirmed she has not resigned from her secretary-general post, has not withdrawn as prime minister candidate, and remains with the PPRP.
When asked if being the party's prime minister candidate would leave her no time for campaigning, as reported, Ms. Trinuch said she was confused by the rumors and reiterated there has been no withdrawal. She added that the party's executive committee will likely discuss the matter again, but as of now, there have been no changes.
Asked about reports that General Prawit Wongsuwan, party leader, might retire from politics and whether this would have an effect, Ms. Trinuch acknowledged it would have an impact but stressed that everything must move on. She said the party and General Prawit have strived to make PPRP sustainable. Even if General Prawit steps down, despite his health, she believes his experience and insights remain very valuable to the party.
Nevertheless, she believes the party's guiding principles will continue unchanged. They will await further clarity from General Prawit.
When asked if both General Prawit and Ms. Trinuch might provide clear statements today, she said yes, clarity will come. However, they must await the results of today's party executive committee meeting to see what happens and to have further discussions.
