The government has issued a warning for seven southern provinces to monitor the situation for flash floods, flash floods from mountain runoff, river overflows, and landslides from 25 to 28 December.
On 25 December 2025, Ms. Airin Panrit, Deputy Spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister, stated that from 25 to 28 December 2025, the government warns residents in seven southern provinces—Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat—to remain vigilant for flash floods, flash floods from mountain runoff, river overflows, and landslides. This is due to the strong northeast monsoon covering the Gulf of Thailand, the southern region, and the Andaman Sea, leading to increased rainfall on the eastern side of the south, with heavy to very heavy rain in some areas. Additionally, winds in the lower Gulf of Thailand are strengthening, with waves around 2 meters high and over 2 meters in stormy areas.
The government has assigned the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) to coordinate with the seven southern provinces—Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phatthalung, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala, and Narathiwat—as well as Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Centers Region 11 in Surat Thani and Region 12 in Songkhla to prepare for increased and heavy rainfall that may cause flooding. Authorities have been instructed to closely monitor weather conditions, rainfall amounts, and water situations locally. Teams with disaster response equipment must be stationed in high-risk areas to respond promptly and assist residents, especially where rainfall exceeds 90 millimeters within 24 hours. The goal is to minimize flood impacts. Staff are to maintain 24-hour vigilance in risk zones and be ready to respond immediately if incidents occur. Provinces are also urged to inform the public to closely follow official weather updates and warnings, and to alert residents in risk areas in advance so they can prepare and strictly follow government advice.
Residents in risk areas are advised to continuously monitor weather conditions, warning announcements, local water situations, and official news, and to prepare for potential disasters. They can follow alerts via the “THAI DISASTER ALERT” app, available on both iOS and Android. If affected by disasters, people can report incidents and request help through the Line application at “DDPM Incident Reporting 1784” by adding Line ID @1784DDPM, or call the 24-hour safety hotline 1784 for coordinated assistance.
