Srisuwan Files Complaint with Election Commission Over Anutins Statement Suggesting Promise of Money in Campaign Speech

Srisuwan filed a complaint with the Election Commission (EC) to investigate Anutin's remarks at the Bhumjaithai Party event, where he said, "I still owe the people 2,400 baht; please give me a chance to repay you," which may suggest an unlawful promise of benefits during campaigning.

On 25 December 2025 GMT+7 at the Election Commission office, Mr. Srisuwan Janya, leader of the Rakchat Rakphaendin organization, submitted a complaint requesting the EC to investigate Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, leader of the Bhumjaithai Party. The complaint concerns Anutin's statement at the party’s policy launch on 24 December 2025 GMT+7 at the Aksara King Power Theatre, where he said, "I still owe the people 2,400 baht; please allow me and the Bhumjaithai Party the opportunity to repay you." The question raised is whether this constitutes a promise to give under election law.

Mr. Srisuwan explained that according to Section 73(1) of the 2018 Organic Act on the Election of Members of the House of Representatives, it is clearly prohibited for any candidate or person to induce voters by offering, promising to give, or preparing to give assets or other benefits that can be valued in money to anyone.

Therefore, Anutin's statement may be interpreted as "promoting the distribution of money," which under election law could likely be considered illegal for these reasons: 1. It mentions a specific amount of money per person; 2. It links the statement to political opportunity or choice; 3. The public can reasonably interpret it as a promise of monetary benefit if elected.

Mr. Srisuwan added that according to EC practices, even if no actual distribution has occurred or if it is claimed to be only a policy idea, if candidates, party members, or campaign assistants use such statements as promises of money to entice votes, this may clearly violate the prohibition. Therefore, he lodged the complaint to alert the EC to investigate whether such statements during the campaign by Anutin and Bhumjaithai Party affiliates constitute unlawful promises to give under the law. If found guilty, under Section 158, penalties include imprisonment of 1-10 years and a 20-year ban from voting. He hopes the EC will strictly uphold its duties fairly and in accordance with the law, true to its slogan of “Honesty, Fairness, and Legality.”
