Wan Yoobamrung Submits Resignation from Palang Pracharath Party to Election Commission Says Chalerm Also Withdraws from Politics

Wan Yoobamrung submitted his resignation to the Election Commission from the Palang Pracharath Party after Prawit and Teerachai retreated from the prime minister candidacy, citing inability to continue. He said he would rest and spend time with his family. Meanwhile, Chalerm announced his withdrawal from politics, as party members also flocked to resign and move to the Kla Tham Party.

On 25 Dec 2025 GMT+7, at the Election Commission office, Wan Yoobamrung arrived to submit his resignation from the Palang Pracharath Party. He revealed that after news broke of Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan, the party leader, withdrawing from the prime minister candidacy, under such circumstances, he felt unable to continue. He also learned that Teerachai Phuwanatnaranuban, another party prime ministerial candidate, had announced his withdrawal. Everyone understands the true meaning: they cannot proceed further as the constituency MP registration deadline is 27 Dec. Therefore, Wan came to the Election Commission to resign from the party membership, which also means relinquishing his executive committee position. He will use this opportunity to rest and be with family. He also sent encouragement to Palang Pracharath party members running in the upcoming election and expressed gratitude to Gen. Prawit for his kindness over the past 1 year and 5 months.

When asked about the Palang Pracharath Party's prospects in this election, Wan said he just learned that hundreds of party members have requested transfer letters. He is unsure how things will unfold but offered support since many couldn't change course due to the tight timing. He will take this term off to rest. Politics is not just about this one election; it requires a long-term view. He hopes to meet again in the future.

Regarding rumors about joining the New Opportunity Party, Wan said he has friends in every party. When he recently met with Jatuporn Borupan, leader of the New Opportunity Party, they discussed general matters. Jatuporn had previously worked with Police Lieutenant Colonel Chalerm Yoobamrung at the Ministry of Interior. Wan emphasized their meeting was casual with no unresolved issues and reaffirmed his wish to rest rather than switch parties.

When asked if Police Lieutenant Colonel Chalerm had announced his political retirement, Wan confirmed that Chalerm, being elderly, has indeed stepped away from politics. As for himself, at 51 years old, he only plans to rest this term and is not old yet. He expects to stay in politics until age 65 and is currently monitoring the situation. He denied considering other parties and wants to wait until after this election.

When asked about the recent move of Ms. Rakchanok Srinok, former Move Forward Party MP and former rival, who switched to run as a party-list MP, Wan said he is never afraid of any candidate or family. However, the party he currently belongs to is facing problems and is unprepared.

Reporters noted that while Wan was submitting his resignation letter, other Palang Pracharath Party members were also arriving to resign, such as Sakorn Phromphakdi, former five-term MP from Sakon Nakhon, and Wirasak Phromphakdi, former Sakon Nakhon provincial governor. They stated they would resign to join the Kla Tham Party.
