Attention is on the final day of the GBC secretary meeting, as Cambodia has yet to accept Thailand's three proposals. Meanwhile, today, Prime Minister Anutin will convene the National Security Council.
On 26 December 2025, reporters reported that in the third-floor conference room of the Immigration Office at the permanent Ban Phak Kad border checkpoint, Khlong Yai Subdistrict, Pong Nam Ron District, Chanthaburi Province, there will be a meeting of the Thailand-Cambodia General Border Committee (GBC). This is the third day of the meeting, with close attention on whether the Cambodian side will accept the three proposals from Thailand, which are:
1. Cambodia must declare a ceasefire first.
2. The ceasefire must be genuine and continuous.
3. Cambodia must sincerely and earnestly cooperate in clearing landmines.
Over the past two days, the meeting atmosphere has been tense, especially on the Cambodian side, led by Maj. Gen. Nyam Boraden as chairman of the Cambodian GBC secretariat. The Thai delegation is led by Gen. Natthapong Praokaew, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters, as chairman of the Thai GBC secretariat.
On the first day, 24 December 2025, the meeting lasted only 30 minutes, during which Thailand submitted the three proposals for Cambodia's consideration. On the second day, 25 December 2025, starting at 10:00 AM, Cambodia submitted counterproposals to Thailand. The meeting paused and was scheduled to resume at 2:00 PM, then postponed to 6:00 PM, then again to 7:30 PM. Finally, at 7:40 PM, the full Cambodian GBC secretariat delegation arrived with serious expressions to resume talks. However, Thailand maintained its three proposals, while Cambodia did not agree. ASEAN Observers from Malaysia, stationed in Thailand, attended as observers.
Reporters add that today at 3:00 PM, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul will convene the National Security Council (NSC) meeting, with relevant agencies such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Defense, and the military to consider the situation. Defense Minister Gen. Natthapol Nakpanich previously stated that if Thailand's proposals are not accepted, he will not attend the GBC meeting nor sign any agreements.
