Abhisit Leads Team of 33 Bangkok MP Candidates to Register for Election, Confident Young Candidates Meet Bangkok Voters Needs

Abhisit leads a team of 33 Democrat Party candidates for Bangkok MPs to register for the election, expressing hope for increased votes and believing that young candidates meet the needs of Bangkok residents.

At 06:45 on 27 Dec 2025 GMT+7, at the Democrat Party headquarters, Abhisit Vejjajiva, party leader; Sakoltee Phattiyakul, deputy leader overseeing Bangkok; and party leader Ong-art Klampaiboon joined 33 Democrat candidates for Bangkok MPs to pay respects to the Earth Goddess, the party's sacred symbol, for good fortune at the party office. Afterwards, the group boarded a 42-seat air-conditioned bus departing at 07:00 to register for the election at Sports Hall 2, Bangkok Youth Center Thai-Japan.

Upon arriving at the Bangkok Youth Center Thai-Japan, Abhisit told Thairath TV that he is hopeful about working fully in Bangkok because the Democrat Party has a long-standing connection with Bangkok residents. The party has members spread throughout, engaging closely with the people. New candidates have joined, eager to see change and volunteer to be part of it. With a new executive committee and fresh candidates, he believes they will meet Bangkok voters' needs and that the policies of the three coalition prime ministerial candidates will address issues such as transportation and electricity costs.

Regarding what will make people trust the Democrat Party again, Abhisit said it is the integrity of the country. Nattapong Ruangpanyawut, leader of the People’s Party, stated that ethics must be higher than the law. Abhisit has proven this during his time as prime minister and boldly declared that the party cannot work with some parties. They have no policy to create division in the country. They will use their experience to push for change.

On the target number of MPs, Abhisit said they want to win all seats, but the final count depends on the voters. In Bangkok districts, the vote is expected to be close. He expects poll results to show increased support and emphasized that if voters support the three prime ministerial candidates, they should also vote for the district MPs to strengthen the party’s representation.
