Chaiwut, leader of the Rakchat Party, revealed that the new party's formation is unrelated to health rumors about 'Uncle Pom' (General Prawit). He does not set targets for parliamentary seats but hopes to bring young people into politics. The prime ministerial candidate will be unveiled tomorrow.
On 27 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Chaiwut Thanakmanusorn, leader of the Rakchat Party, told Thairath TV that today he led candidates for 30 Bangkok constituencies to register for election. Nationwide, fewer candidates were submitted because the party was just established on 10 Dec 2025 GMT+7, and parliament was dissolved on 12 Dec 2025 GMT+7, leaving insufficient time to prepare candidates.
Chaiwut said he wants to promote the ideology of patriotism to the public and especially the younger generation. Regarding the Rakchat Party's background, after previously being part of the Palang Pracharath Party (PPRP), he explained that existing parties do not meet the expectations of the public, particularly young people. If youth stayed in old parties, they would have little role and face difficulties working. Therefore, he founded the new party to allow young people to work together. He added that young people helped develop the party policies, aiming for a party that embodies patriotism.
When asked if he received any information prompting him to leave his former party, Chaiwut said that was not the case. He admitted he informed General Prawit Wongsuwan, leader of the Palang Pracharath Party, about his desire to form a new party because the current party did not address young people's needs. He wanted to create a party with an atmosphere welcoming young people to change the country. General Prawit continued with Palang Pracharath, while Chaiwut separated to form a new party. He confirmed this decision was unrelated to General Prawit's health issues, which became public later. Even when working with General Prawit, it was evident he was in poor health. He emphasized that after forming Rakchat, General Prawit did not offer any advice.
Chaiwut described Rakchat Party's main policy as based on patriotism ideology, emphasizing politics aimed at genuinely improving the country. He opposes any actions that harm the nation. He also rejects populist policies such as cash handouts, preferring to have good and capable people enter politics to reduce public fear of politics. Regarding the prime ministerial candidate, he asked to wait until tomorrow (28 Dec 2025 GMT+7), noting they are still in the process of recruiting. He does not set a target for the number of parliamentary seats but intends to perform at his best.
Chaiwut further said he wants people to understand politics. Older parties have strengths like name recognition, fan bases, and experienced MPs, but the question is whether they have improved. All parties face problems; some promised economic reforms but failed. Hence, they want to create a party to bring good people to 'flush out the pollution,' at least as a first step to improving politics.
