"Dr. Warong" The leader of the Thai Pakdee Party advocates abolishing the 500- and 1,000-baht banknotes to help fight corruption, while clearly stating which parties they will not work with.
On 27 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Dr. Warong Dechkitvikrom, leader of the Thai Pakdee Party, revealed that the party’s policy to abolish the 500- and 1,000-baht banknotes is due to gray money often being paid in cash; no one dares to transfer because there is evidence. Holding large amounts of cash tends to facilitate illegal and improper actions.
Nowadays, those who store stacks of 1,000-baht notes in cash are entirely holding gray money, because cash leaves no evidence. I believe ordinary citizens will be minimally affected. If we break this cycle, I believe it will help significantly—even if not 100%, it could reduce 70-80% of position buying and under-the-table payments.
Therefore, when depositing 500- and 1,000-baht banknotes into accounts, it is crucial to explain the source of the money. If cash is not deposited, there is a high risk that the money is illicit.
Today, our party is fielding candidates in 10 Bangkok districts and about 100 nationwide, with high expectations. Regarding parties we will not cooperate with, I prioritize the nation above the government. If a party undermines the nation—such as opposing national unity or harming the military—we cannot collaborate with them. Also excluded are parties with continuous histories of corruption. I am clear that we definitely will not work with them. You can probably guess which two parties these are.
