Prime Minister Orders Military Planning Alongside Diplomacy, Vows Not to Lose an Inch of Territory

Anutin explained the Thailand-Cambodia Joint Statement, urging the public to trust that the military will reclaim territory as planned. He revealed that Wang Yi has invited Thailand to talks in Kunming this Monday.

On 27 December 2025 GMT+7, Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, spoke about the Thailand-Cambodia border situation following opposition to the signing of the Joint Statement. He said he understands public concern but asked people to trust the military and the National Security Council's procedures, which the government fully supports.

Anutin revealed that he has received the latest report from the military confirming that territorial integrity has now been restored in all areas as planned. He said yesterday's violent clash was a response in line with the Rule of Engagement to protect Thailand's sovereignty.

"Thailand's sovereignty cannot be infringed upon. As I always say, not even an inch will be lost. The government maintains this principle, and we have recovered all previously encroached areas. I ask the public to understand that everything is proceeding according to the military's and government's objectives," Anutin said.

Regarding diplomatic efforts, the Prime Minister said this is the responsibility of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the GBC Committee. On 29 December, Wang Yi, China's Foreign Minister, has invited Sihasak Puangketkaew, Thailand's Foreign Minister, to discuss the situation in Kunming, in line with cooperation frameworks previously agreed upon at ASEAN meetings.

Asked whether the fighting would affect the election, Anutin assured it would not. The Election Commission has announced procedures and measures to accommodate the election in border areas. The government is ready to facilitate and fully cooperate to ensure the election proceeds smoothly.
