First Day of Phatthalung MP Election Registration Heats Up as Major Parties Field Candidates in All 3 Districts Local Vote-Getting Agents Begin Mobilizing

The first day of registration for Phatthalung's parliamentary constituency election was as intense as in many other provinces. Major parties fielded candidates in all three districts. Several former MPs switched parties in the final stretch to compete in the 2025 election. Reports surfaced that local vote-getting agents have begun mobilizing by recording voters' names and requesting their ID card numbers.

On 27 Dec 2025 GMT+7, reporters described the atmosphere on the first day of candidate registration for Phatthalung's parliamentary constituencies as lively and intense from the very start. Major political parties submitted candidates in all three districts, alongside medium and small parties also entering the race. Both new and experienced candidates arrived gradually to register at the Phatthalung Provincial Hall, where the Provincial Election Commission held registrations for constituencies 1, 2, and 3. Many arrived before registration opened, prompting the commission to conduct a lottery to determine candidate order and assign campaign numbers. Supporters from each party gathered densely, cheering loudly both inside and outside the building after candidates learned their assigned numbers.

Phatthalung remains a key province to watch in this election due to intense last-minute party-switching by former MPs and influential local politicians.

Constituency 1 Ms. Supatcharee Thammaphet, a former Democrat Party MP from the influential Thammaphet family, is running under the Kla Tham Party banner, facing off against Lieutenant Commander Athikun Kongmee of the Bhumjaithai Party.

Constituency 2 Mr. Nitisak Thammaphet from the Thammaphet family, formerly with the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party, switched to run for the Pheu Thai Party to contest against Bhumjaithai candidate Mr. Worath Therdweeraphong, making this constituency a highly competitive race.

Constituency 3 Former MP Mr. Romtham Khamnurak of the Democrat Party chose not to run this time and instead joined the Bhumjaithai Party, opening the way for Mr. Khemapol Uityakul to run under Bhumjaithai. However, competition remains fierce as Mr. Charan Chankaew enters the race representing the Kla Tham Party in this district.

Overall, on the first registration day, political parties submitting candidates across all three districts included Bhumjaithai, Phlawat, Prachachon, Democrat, Pheu Thai, Kla Tham, and Ruam Thai Sang Chart. This highlights Phatthalung's importance in southern political contests. After registration, candidates immediately began campaigning in their constituencies.

Meanwhile, as candidates arrived to register, the Phatthalung Citizens Group held signs reading “No vote-buying, no selling yourself” to campaign against all forms of vote-buying. They emphasized that in past elections, Phatthalung ranked among the top southern provinces for vote-buying due to intense competition among major parties. However, before registration day, reports indicated local vote-getting agents had begun recording residents' names and requesting ID card numbers. This has drawn close scrutiny from various independent groups regarding both the political competition and the election's transparency.
