PM to Fly to Buriram to Escort Refugees Home After 72-Hour Thai-Cambodian Ceasefire

Anutin is preparing to fly to Buriram to escort refugees back home after a 72-hour ceasefire between Thailand and Cambodia. He remains doubtful about reports that a Belarusian plane carrying weapons landed in Phnom Penh, stating that if there is any risk, security agencies are already investigating.

On 28 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, spoke about the situation of residents along the Thailand-Cambodia border who can gradually return home after signing a Joint Statement. He said he would travel this afternoon to visit displaced people in Buriram Province as they begin their journey home.

When asked if residents can fully return home now, Anutin said it should be okay. Following the last clashes, financial aid was approved to assist displaced people at shelter centers. Going forward, legal procedures will be followed since there are existing protocols. Regarding trust in Cambodia amid rumors of a Belarusian transport plane flying around Thailand and landing in Phnom Penh, Anutin said such news is not yet credible.

When asked if further investigation is needed, Anutin said security and military agencies are already gathering intelligence and conducting checks. If any facts or risks arise, they will report accordingly. When pressed about concerns that Cambodia might rearm or reinforce during the ceasefire, Anutin said there are clear rules of engagement. Cambodia requested the ceasefire talks and has cooperated by attending a three-day meeting. The Joint Statement clearly states that both sides will no longer violate each other, and they hope Cambodia will honor this agreement. Additionally, China’s foreign minister has invited the foreign ministers of Thailand and Cambodia to a meeting in Kunming, aiming for peace in the region. He emphasized that all details are clearly outlined in the Joint Statement.
