Rangsima Rom sincerely apologized to the public over a People’s Party MP candidate arrested in a money laundering case. He revealed that despite a strict screening system, errors occurred. He accepted the criticism as an important lesson and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to continue combating grey capital.
In the afternoon of 29 Dec 2025 GMT+7 Rangsima Rom, deputy leader of the People’s Party, (People’s Party) spoke in Nakhon Si Thammarat province that he wishes to apologize to all citizens, supporters, and party members for the incident earlier this morning. He said it must be accepted as an important lesson for the People’s Party. Until now, they have tried to be open to everyone wishing to nominate themselves as the party’s MP candidates.
Rangsima added that they have designed a screening system including fingerprint background checks and credit bureau verification. Although screening has become stricter compared to last year, mistakes still happened. As deputy party leader, he sincerely apologized to the public for the incident. However, he emphasized that Thailand’s crucial issue is grey capital seizing control. Grey capital tries to infiltrate every corner of Thai society and gain political power. This must be openly acknowledged, and no incident should silence or forbid discussion about grey capital, as it is a serious matter and a national interest issue.
He further revealed that the People’s Party’s stance is to act as a political party that monitors and pushes state officials and authorities to suppress grey capital. This is not a new effort but one ongoing for years. Going back to the era of former Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, Rangsima himself spoke out about a politician involved with drugs. After Prayut’s era, the issue of scammers also gained wide public attention. Now, there is abundant evidence showing networks of grey capital trying to take over the country through companies and economic structures. These matters are important national interests, and both political parties and citizens must work together to suppress them.
For him, although this incident is an important lesson, the party insists it will not stop proposing solutions to fight and suppress grey capital. Of course, many will criticize the People’s Party for this, and they accept all criticism, but they reaffirm their stance to fight grey capital without changing. They confirm the People’s Party will never help or protect anyone involved with grey capital, drugs, or scammers. There is, of course, a legal process, and those involved must face legal action. Politically, if credible accusations and evidence arise, they are ready to adjust party personnel appropriately according to the facts.
“Finally, I want to tell the police that I hope to see this standard applied to politics and all political parties. If anyone is involved with grey capital, people entering politics should at least have no accusations related to these issues, as it affects public trust, especially policy-making on drugs, scammers, gambling websites, human trafficking, or any other form of grey capital. I want this to become a real standard. One day, after the election, if we form a government, the approach to suppressing grey capital—especially any politicians, officials, or state officers involved—will be thorough and radical, root and branch. This will definitely be carried out by the People’s Party. What happened today is an important lesson for us but will not destroy us. Our determination to fight grey capital remains.”
