RTSC Explains “Prison in the Middle of the Sea” Policy Is Feasible, Converts Abandoned Oil Rigs into High-Security Prisons

Atthawit, prime ministerial candidate of the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party, explained that the "prison in the middle of the sea" policy is feasible. This followed viral comparisons to Azkaban Prison from the Harry Potter films. He pointed out the plan to convert abandoned offshore oil rigs into high-security prisons.

29 Dec 2025 GMT+7 Mr. Atthawit Suwanpakdee, deputy leader of the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party (RTSC) and prime ministerial candidate, addressed the case of social media sharing and criticism regarding the “prison in the middle of the sea” policy of the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party, which went viral with comparisons to "Azkaban Prison" from the famous Harry Potter series. He emphasized that the core idea is not fantasy like in the movies but a real resource management plan to maximize existing assets.

In this regard, the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party plans to repurpose abandoned "offshore oil rigs in the Gulf of Thailand," whose concession contracts have expired. These rigs, initially built with investments worth billions of baht, will be converted into high-security prisons. We must accept the reality that current prisons still cannot resist the influence of gray capital groups. There are still illegal uses of mobile phones to order drugs and command activities outside, or even smuggling women inside. But for a prison in the middle of the sea, these problems will disappear because the sea itself is the best natural barrier.

Key features of the prison-in-the-sea policy include three main points:

1. It serves as a reception center for drug-related offenders, separating this group from other prisoners to prevent new network formations inside the prison.

2. Complete communication cut-off, since the middle of the sea has no mobile phone signal, inmates cannot contact or command external networks.

3. Difficult access and intervention, as visits require boat travel only, which can be strictly controlled to reduce chances of smuggling contraband inside.

Atthawit revealed that this policy is practically feasible and can be implemented immediately because Mr. Peerapan Salirathvibhak, leader of the Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party, has experience as both Minister of Justice and Minister of Energy. He deeply understands the regulations and mechanisms of both ministries, guaranteeing this policy will not remain a dream but become a concrete drug suppression measure. It repurposes leftover assets from energy exploration to restore justice to society. The Ruam Thai Sang Chart Party, number 6 on the ballot, is ready to reform the correctional system and eradicate drug syndicates once and for all.
