Anutin Declares Thailand Plants Its Flag Only on Thai Soil, Greets Media with Plus Sign for New Year, Declines to Explain Sons Power Deal

Anutin disregards Hun Sen's comments, stating that Thailand plants its flag only on Thai soil. He refuses to explain the 'Pek Seranee' matter involving his son selling electricity to the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA). He greeted the press with the 'Plus' sign for the New Year and said he will visit the border before flying out this afternoon for the 'Heart with Wings' mission.


At 12:38 PM on 30 Dec 2025 GMT+7. Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. He gave an interview at the Government House after the 72-hour ceasefire period concluded, following the signing of a Joint Statement between Thailand and Cambodia at noon today. He said he had not yet heard the evaluation meeting's outcome but that they were following the agreement. Regarding whether the 18 Cambodian soldiers detained would be released, he said he did not know; it was up to those handling the matter.

A reporter asked about the case of Samdech Hun Sen, President of Cambodia’s Senate, who reportedly said he would not accept Thailand planting its flag, questioning whether this indicated the border situation was not truly peaceful. Mr. Anutin replied, “We simply do not accept that. Planting the flag shows we are confident this is Thai territory, that's all. Let whoever say whatever they want. The Thai government and Thai people say this.”

Meanwhile, Mr. Anutin also commented on rumors that a company owned by Mr. Seranee Charnvirakul, also known as Pek, his son, had a 25-year electricity sales contract with the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) starting in 2021. Mr. Anutin asked, “What year?” The reporter replied, “2021.” Mr. Anutin then said to check carefully. When asked if he would clarify, he replied no need, as it was not his matter. He added, please verify the year again because the reporter had written 2018, and in 2018, he was something else.”

After the cabinet meeting, Mr. Anutin, as leader of the Bhumjaithai Party, walked down from Building One to greet the media, making the 'Plus' gesture, the party’s campaign symbol. After the interview, he made the 'Plus' sign again and said, “Happy New Year.” Then a reporter asked where he would travel during the New Year. Mr. Anutin said he would not travel but would visit soldiers at the border. This afternoon, the Prime Minister will travel to Udonthani Province to participate in the 'Heart with Wings' mission.
