Navy Orders Investigation into Alleged Rape by Naval Officer Promises No Protection if Guilty

The Royal Thai Navy has ordered an investigation into allegations that a naval officer raped a 23-year-old woman. Disciplinary action will proceed alongside legal processes. The Navy confirmed that if the officer is found guilty, they will not provide protection.

On 30 December 2025 GMT+7, Ms. A (a pseudonym), aged 23, filed a complaint with Lieutenant Colonel Natthaphong Kalpanart, investigating officer at Sattahip Police Station. She stated that an unidentified Thai man claiming to be a naval officer took her from a nightclub in Sattahip Subdistrict, Sattahip District, Chonburi Province, to a central naval officers' housing building (naval flats), where the alleged rape occurred.

Rear Admiral Paratch Rattanachaiphan, Navy spokesperson, explained that preliminary checks confirmed the accused is indeed a naval officer under the Navy. The officer's unit has established a fact-finding committee and is fully cooperating with investigators to pursue the case.

The Navy affirmed that although this is a personal matter, if investigations and legal proceedings confirm wrongdoing, it constitutes conduct violating laws, regulations, and military discipline, which damages public trust. The Navy will carry out disciplinary measures alongside legal action and will impose strict penalties if guilt is established, without exceptions. The Navy clearly states it has no policy to protect or assist offenders in any case.
