The National Human Rights Commission of Thailand (NHRCT) issued a statement on the cases involving Ice Rakchanok and Jinny Yotsuda, stating that violations of human dignity and sexual harassment are unacceptable, reflect narrow-mindedness, and urging their affiliated institutions to investigate the behavior while requesting the police to expedite prosecution.
31 Dec 2025 GMT+7 The National Human Rights Commission of Thailand (NHRCT) issued a statement titled "Violations of human dignity and sexual harassment are unacceptable and reflect immaturity." The statement noted that a case arose where a professor at a higher education institution made derogatory remarks about the origin and family background of a female candidate for Member of Parliament (MP) from the People’s Party. Ms. Rakchanok Srinok, a party-list MP candidate, and recently, a famous singer and actor made crude and sexually suggestive comments about the daughter of the leader of the Thai Sang Thai Party, Ms. Yotsuda Leelapanyalert, via social media.
The NHRCT considers that acts insulting women's dignity and violating human dignity are unacceptable. While everyone has freedom of thought and the right to express opinions freely, such expressions must respect and not infringe on the rights of others. They must not use derogatory, crude language that incites hatred, diminishes, insults, or damages the reputation and honor of others.
In a democratic society, diversity of opinions is normal and must be respected by all. Exercising rights and freedoms in ways that violate others’ rights, lack responsibility, and undermine human dignity reflects narrow-mindedness and immaturity. It may also lead society to act on emotion rather than reason and obstruct democratic development.
Therefore, the NHRCT urges the affiliated higher education institution to promptly investigate the behavior and ethics of its personnel and calls on police to expedite justice in the sexual harassment case. Furthermore, all parties, especially public figures who influence society, should set an example by respecting human dignity and expressing opinions constructively and responsibly. The commission asks society to create safe spaces amid diverse views to enable the country’s development toward a new era where everyone respects human rights principles. .
