Ajarn Jet Clarifies: Candidates Who Are Celebrities or Influencers Can Campaign Using Their Talents, Only Hiring Performances Is Prohibited

Ajarn Jet, prime ministerial candidate from the Rakchat Party, clarified election law, stating that MP candidates who are celebrities or influencers can use their talents and perform during campaigns without breaking the law. Only hiring entertainment shows is prohibited.

On 31 Dec 2025 GMT+7, Mr. Jet Tonawanik, prime ministerial candidate for the Rakchat Party, explained election campaigning law regarding candidates who are celebrities, singers, or influencers using their special talents for campaigning. He confirmed that performing one’s own talents is not illegal, but hiring entertainment shows is not allowed.

Mr. Jet said there is ongoing debate about whether MP candidates who are influencers, celebrities, singers, or models with skills in singing, dancing, or playing music can showcase these talents during campaigning. According to the Organic Act on the Election of Members of the House of Representatives, Section 73, paragraph 1, clause 3, combined with paragraph 2, the law intends to prohibit hiring others to organize entertainment or festivities, as this is seen as vote buying and creates political unfairness.

As a former member of the legislative drafting committee, he explained that the ban on entertainment arises because hiring performers depends on money, giving an unfair advantage to those with more funds. However, if the candidate themselves—an artist or singer—performs their own singing, dancing, or music, this is permitted and not considered a violation.

Mr. Jet urged the Election Commission to consider this issue in line with the law’s original intent, which does not intend to disqualify candidates’ personal talents. He also warned all MP candidates to be cautious of the legal boundary: performing themselves—singing, dancing, or entertaining—is allowed, but hiring others to perform may be a violation of election law.
