Rak Chart Party Honors Brave Soldiers at Victory Monument, Rebuts Sam Rangsri Claim, Says Cambodia Must Pay Damages

Chaiwut and Jes led Rak Chart Party Bangkok MP candidates in honoring brave soldiers at the Victory Monument, countering Sam Rangsri’s claim by asserting Cambodia was the aggressor and must pay damages.

At 09:00 on 2 Jan 2026 GMT+7 at the Victory Monument, the Rak Chart Party (RCP), led by party leader and second prime ministerial candidate Chaiwut Thanakmanusorn, along with first prime ministerial candidate Jes Tonawanik and the Bangkok MP candidates, gathered to pay tribute and remember the brave soldier heroes. They offered white chrysanthemums to honor the sacrifices made by these soldiers for Thailand.

Jes responded to former Cambodian opposition leader Sam Rangsri’s call for Cambodians to sue Thailand at the International Criminal Court and the International Court of Justice for damages regarding alleged incursions and destruction of Cambodian property. Jes stated that Cambodia continues to threaten Thailand, especially through statements from Cambodian leaders and factions calling to bring Thailand before international courts to demand compensation for alleged invasion and property damage.

Jes said that the issue of compensation mentioned by Sam Rangsri is not something Thailand should pay. He emphasized that the aggressors who initiated the conflict are the ones responsible for damages, and that the defeated nation in war is the one required to pay compensation—not the victimized party.

Jes added that the party responsible for paying damages to Thailand is Cambodia, not Thailand paying damages to Cambodia or the Khmer side.
