Thai Embassy in Lima Clarifies Venezuela Situation Does Not Affect Overseas Voting and Referendum on 29 Jan

The Thai Embassy in Lima, Peru, clarified that the situation in Venezuela does not affect the organization of elections and referendum abroad in five countries on 29 January.

On 5 Dec at 10:00 a.m. Thai time, the Royal Thai Embassy in Lima, Peru, responsible for managing elections for MPs and referendums in five countries—Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Venezuela, and Colombia—stated that the U.S. military operation to detain Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, in Caracas on 4 Jan has no impact on overseas elections and referendums in Venezuela. Currently, Venezuela has only one Thai citizen eligible to vote, who is now traveling back to Thailand to visit relatives.

The Thai Ambassador in Lima will organize the elections and referendum in two ways: first, in-person voting at polling stations for eligible Thai voters in Peru at the Royal Thai Embassy located at 678 Coronel P. Portillo Street, San Isidro district, Lima, Peru, on Thursday, 29 January 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Second, mail-in voting is available for eligible Thai voters in Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Venezuela, and Colombia, with ballots to be sent to the Royal Thai Embassy in Lima by 5:00 p.m. on 29 January 2026.

The overseas vote counting will take place at the Royal Thai Embassy in Lima, Peru, on 9 February 2026, starting at 10:00 a.m. local Peru time.

Additionally, the Royal Thai Embassy in Warsaw, Poland, announced it is ready to hold overseas elections and referendums for eligible Thai voters residing in Poland and Ukraine. Voting at the embassy will be on 25 January 2026 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Voters may also submit their ballots by mail, which must be received by the Thai Embassy in Warsaw by 28 January.
