Jitphat led the Thai Move Forward Party to Nong Jan Village, Sa Kaeo Province, accompanied by "Jao Mee," the candidate for Sa Kaeo MP, affirming policies supporting the construction of fences and walls to divide the border, along with strengthening the military's capabilities, and urging the government to expedite rehabilitation and assistance for the people.
At 10:00 a.m. on 5 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Ms. Jitphat Tunkridakorn, party-list MP candidate and leader of the Thai Move Forward Party, together with Ms. Nongrat Chantama (“Jao Mee”), Sa Kaeo MP candidate for the party, visited Nong Jan Village in Sa Kaeo Province to inspect damage to residents' homes following the ceasefire in the Thailand-Cambodia border conflict without further clashes. They found widespread damage caused by Cambodian soldiers’ BM-21 rockets falling on civilian houses, affecting vehicles, homes, animal pens, and cattle, requiring extensive repairs. Residents have begun returning to their homes but have had to pay for repairs themselves, as the government has yet to provide compensation, pending documentation and verification.
Ms. Jitphat stated that she witnessed the extensive damage causing hardship to residents living along the border. Together with Ms. Nongrat, the Sa Kaeo MP candidate for District 2, they toured the area. The urgent priority is to clear and secure the area so residents can safely return to their homes, farms, and fields. Coordination with security forces is needed to clear and inspect the area for safety, as there are still bomb fragments and unexploded ordnance requiring investigation due to potential danger. She also urged the government to promptly rehabilitate and allocate budget for compensation to the affected people.
When asked about the Thai Move Forward Party's future policies on rehabilitation and compensation, Ms. Jitphat said the party already has urgent plans. The party focuses on building human capital, emphasizing the importance of housing and morale for people living in border areas. She expressed uncertainty about the future, noting that although a ceasefire and calm have been established, it remains crucial to care for the people and restore their morale.
When asked if there is concern about a potential third outbreak of clashes, Ms. Jitphat said she personally hopes there will be no further fighting out of sympathy for the people. In the past two months, she has visited Sa Kaeo Province five times and wishes for a swift resolution. Besides policies for rehabilitation and public care, the Thai Move Forward Party also supports security measures such as building high fences or walls to clearly demarcate the border, along with strengthening the military and security forces’ capabilities, to prevent daily clashes and loss of personnel among soldiers and border police.
“The Thai Move Forward Party also advocates legislation to allocate budgets supporting all personnel involved in this conflict, not only the deceased or severely injured but all soldiers, border police, and other state officials who participated in defending national sovereignty. This is vital to boost morale among citizens and security officials. I, along with the Thai Move Forward Party, candidate number 49, send our support to the people living and working along the Thailand-Cambodia border, especially the security forces, recognizing their hard work and sacrifice to protect national sovereignty. We want all to know that the Thai people stand firmly beside them and will never abandon them. The party is fully prepared to support both budget and personnel, committed to backing our soldiers with full strength.”
