“Abhisit” leads the Democrat Party’s 2026 election campaign, pleased with the warm reception from people in Bangkok, expressing hope for honest politics. He urges the Election Commission to promote awareness of the various colored ballots, as confusion among voters remains.
At 12:00 PM on 5 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva, leader of the Democrat Party, along with Mr. Korn Chatikavanij and Ms. Kadee Liaopairoj, the party’s three prime ministerial candidates, visited the market behind the Ministry of Finance. They met with local vendors, ministry officials, and general shoppers, attracting lively attention as many greeted them and requested photos along both sides of the marketplace.
Mr. Abhisit spoke about campaigning in Bangkok after the New Year 2026, saying, “It has been warm and positive. Many said they are glad that I and the Democrat Party have returned. They have welcomed us warmly and support our efforts to bring honest politics. From our 27 main policies, which were carefully selected from a total of 200, I ask the public to follow us. We will gradually release these policies so people can understand which ones apply to them, where they live, and what benefits they will receive from the Democrat Party’s platform.”
When asked if he had discussed the different colored ballots with locals, given possible confusion, Mr. Abhisit said, “Yes. Over the past two to three days, there has been confusion especially about the third ballot, which relates to the referendum. Because information about advance voting remains unclear, people are uncertain about the dates and times to cast their votes. I urge the Election Commission to promptly increase public information about the different colored ballots. Today is the last day to register for advance voting; I encourage everyone to act quickly to protect their voting rights.”
