Police Deploy 8,000 Officers to Oversee Election Security, Emphasizing Law and Political Neutrality

The police are implementing the 'Election Protection 66' plan to ensure security and maintain order during the MP and subdistrict administrative organization elections. They have deployed over 8,000 personnel for operations, emphasizing strict adherence to the law and political neutrality. The plan aims to protect the election process and avoid any interference with election results.

Today (6 January 2026) at 13:30, Police General Kittirat Phanphet, Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, assigned Police General Samran Nualma, Deputy Commissioner-General and Director of the Police Election Security and Order Center, to chair a meeting preparing for security and order during the elections for MPs, the referendum, and the election of subdistrict administrative organization chiefs and members. The meeting included Police Lieutenant General Udon Yomjaroen, Assistant Commissioner-General and Deputy Director of the center, representatives from the Metropolitan Police Bureau, Provincial Police Regions 1-9, and related units. It was held at the Police Operations Center meeting room, Building 1, Royal Thai Police Headquarters, and via video conference.

The Royal Thai Police have prepared the 'Election Protection 66' plan to oversee security and order for the upcoming MP elections and referendum scheduled for Sunday, 8 February 2026, with early voting on Sunday, 1 February 2026. The plan covers all phases from candidate registration, security of ballot printing and storage, distribution, election day, and vote counting. Over 8,000 police personnel nationwide are assigned for these duties, and a coordinated nationwide crime crackdown during the election period from 25 to 31 January 2026 will also take place.

Additionally, full preparations have been made for areas holding elections for subdistrict administrative organization chiefs and members on Sunday, 11 January 2026, with police officers assigned to each polling station to ensure security and assist with traffic management across all locations.

Police General Samran emphasized strict adherence to policy and operational guidelines, focusing on upholding the law and political neutrality, protecting the election process, and avoiding interference with election results. There is integrated command, control, monitoring, and close reporting of the overall situation, including vigilance over any developments that could affect public order. Risk areas and persons have been analyzed, with proactive prevention strategies implemented. Units are urged to develop security plans for polling stations, prioritizing incident prevention.

He also stressed that in areas where election candidates hold rallies—especially conflict-prone zones—provincial and regional police must prioritize maintaining order. Police stations receiving reports of damage to campaign signs are instructed to promptly investigate, identify offenders, and fairly prosecute all candidates involved.
