Early Voting Method for the 2026 Election After Early Voting Registration Closes

For the 2026 early election, voters must use two ballots: a green ballot to mark the number of their preferred constituency MP and a pink ballot to mark the number of the party-list MP or the political party they support.

On 7 Jan 2025, the Election Commission officially closed the registration for early voting inside and outside constituencies, including overseas, effective from midnight on 5 Jan 2025.

The EC summarized that between 20 Dec 2024 and 5 Jan 2025—a period 17 days before the election—a total of 2,410,425 people registered to vote early. Among them, 8,247 registered to vote within their constituency, 2,262,643 registered to vote outside their constituency, and 139,535 registered to vote overseas.

When is the early voting for 2026?

For those who have registered for early voting, they should cast their votes on Sunday, 1 Feb 2026, at the designated polling location they chose during registration. Voters must check the posted voter list at the polling station, review the candidates for their constituency before voting, then present their ID card or a government-issued card with a 13-digit ID number, such as a driver's license, to receive two ballots:

How to vote early in 2026

1. Constituency MP ballot (green)

  • Purpose: To select the “preferred” candidate to represent your constituency.
  • Ballot characteristics: It shows the candidate's number and a box to mark; usually, it does not include the candidate's party name or logo.
  • How to mark: Place a cross (X) in the box corresponding to the single candidate number you choose.

2. Party-list MP ballot (pink)

  • Purpose: To select the “preferred” political party, which will be used to calculate the number of party-list MPs allocated to that party.
  • Ballot characteristics: It clearly shows the party number, party logo, and party name.
  • How to mark: Place a cross (X) in the box of the single political party you select.

Voters are reminded not to tear their ballots, as this is illegal, and must not mark any symbols other than a cross in the candidate or party number box; otherwise, the ballot will be considered invalid.

Meanwhile, the constitutional amendment referendum allows voting outside the registered constituency, but only if it is in a different province from the voter's registered address. Voting will occur nationwide on the same day only, with a yellow ballot. The question asks, “Do you agree that there should be a new constitution?” Voters can mark whether they agree, disagree, or choose not to express an opinion. This referendum will take place exclusively on 8 Feb 2026.
