A former senator praised the People's Party's clever strategy of blending new faces with experienced veterans to form a management team that, if in government, would generate substantial public confidence.
On 7 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Wanchai Sonsiri, former senator, commented on Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan’s resignation and the People's Party's management team launch. He said Gen. Prawit likely assessed that continuing was futile in the 2026 election, believing the party might secure only 1-5 MPs. Resigning preemptively is better than waiting for election results to confirm defeat, as Palang Pracharath strongly desires to be in government and is uncomfortable in opposition.
Regarding the People's Party introducing former senator Pisan Manawapat as a candidate for foreign minister, Mr. Wanchai noted this does not violate the constitution despite Pisan’s two-year political hiatus, which ends on 11 May 2026. Since he has not yet officially held the position and is only named as part of the People's Government (The Professionals) management team, the new government formation expected between April and May means he can legally assume office after the hiatus expires.
Mr. Wanchai said this is a smart strategy by the People's Party to recruit experienced individuals to strengthen their team, showing readiness to govern comprehensively rather than relying solely on recent graduates. This approach will boost voter confidence significantly.
