The People's Party has introduced its third outsider candidate, "Anuchat Puangsali," as Minister of Education, promoting a policy to end the monopoly of power from the central government, the root cause of Thailand's education woes.
On 7 Jan 2026 GMT+7, the People's Party (PChon) unveiled its third candidate for the People's Government team in the "The Professionals" campaign, focusing on a full overhaul of education reform by naming Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anuchat Puangsali, a leading academic and school administrator, as its candidate for Minister of Education.
The People's Party stated that the Ministry of Education has often been downgraded to a secondary role in ministerial quota allocations, resulting in leadership by those without direct experience, appointed through party quotas. Therefore, the party proposed Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anuchat, who has direct experience as a former dean of the Faculty of Learning Sciences and Education at Thammasat University and as chairperson of Thammasat University Demonstration School, to bring true professional management to the ministry.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anuchat views the current Thai education system as a longstanding national burden affecting students, teachers, and parents. His goal is to dismantle the concentration of power, emphasizing that the old approach of a minister commanding solely from the central government no longer works. He plans to create a new learning ecosystem that encourages all sectors to participate in designing flexible and fulfilling educational experiences.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Anuchat also said lifelong learning in the modern world extends beyond the scope of the Ministry of Education and must encompass people of all ages.
