Positive Momentum for Pheu Thai: Yotsanan Campaigns on Peoples Policies, Confident in 20-Baht MRT Fare Implementation

Yotsanan said the Pheu Thai party's momentum has greatly improved, with a major rally on 8 January at Lan Khon Mueang. He highlighted addressing inequality and expressed confidence that the 20-baht flat MRT fare can be implemented within 3-6 months. He avoids speaking ill of others and focuses on campaigning by promoting people-centered policies.

At 11:30 a.m. on 7 January 2026 GMT+7. Mr. Yotsanan Wongsawat, Pheu Thai party prime ministerial candidate, gave an interview at Al-Istiqamah Mosque after campaigning, assessing the party's momentum and polling results in Bangkok following continuous ground activities. He said the trend is clearly improving, boosting morale for further campaigning.

When asked if there was an assessment of the factors behind the increasing party popularity, Mr. Yotsanan replied, “Currently, the country wants to move forward. We avoid conflicts or speaking ill of others. Instead, we focus on detailed policies that benefit the people. This has led many to understand and support our approach because we have capable people ready to act and citizens willing to embrace our policies. Over the past two to three weeks, popularity has increased due to consistent ground campaigning. Our candidates have a deep understanding of local issues.”

Asked which policy would win over Bangkok voters, Mr. Yotsanan said Bangkok faces diverse challenges. He strives to make every policy concrete, such as the 20-baht flat MRT fare, which has broad support. Additionally, they are exploring renewable energy to reduce electricity costs, a policy they previously implemented, lowering rates from 4 baht to just over 3 baht.

Asked about highlights of the major rally on 8 January 2026 at Lan Khon Mueang, Mr. Yotsanan gave a teaser: it will focus on social issues and inequality. He noted that they have devoted significant ground efforts to these areas recently, and the event will officially launch policies addressing social inequality.

Regarding concerns about attempts to discredit Pheu Thai during the campaign, Mr. Yotsanan said sitting still and listening to such criticism would be disheartening. However, active campaigning has garnered public encouragement, with supporters saying the criticism will eventually fade and backfire on its source. Their ground efforts focus on communicating policies, not just visibility.

Concerning the Bhumjaithai party's questioning of the feasibility of the 20-baht flat MRT fare policy, Mr. Yotsanan responded to this point by saying, this initiative involves collaboration with the private sector and negotiations regarding MRT concessions, structured so as not to impact government finances. He expressed confidence in its feasibility, explaining that the project should have been completed by October 2025 but was delayed due to political issues. Now, preparations are underway to resume the project, with implementation expected within 3-6 months and visible progress forthcoming. .
