Thanathorn visits Newin's stronghold in Buriram, clearly stating that voting for the People's Party means Natthapong will be Prime Minister—there will be no more uncertainty. He warns that if the orange bird (symbolizing a party) wins, the mouse (another party symbol) will prevail, and urges people not to believe false news that causes confusion among villagers.
On 8 Jan 2026 GMT+7, at the municipal fresh market in Nang Rong district, Buriram province, Mr. Thanathorn Juangroongruangkit, leader of the Progressives, acting as a campaign assistant for the People's Party, accompanied by Mr. Kamphong Thepakham and Mr. Thawisak Thaksin, former MPs from the Move Forward Party, campaigned to support Mr. Phet Suppatkul, People's Party candidate for Buriram constituency 8. The atmosphere was lively with many locals offering encouragement and taking photos.
Thanathorn stated that in the last election, many were disappointed because despite voting, Mr. Pita did not become Prime Minister and the Move Forward Party did not form the government. People had hoped it would be an opportunity to improve Thailand, but now the upcoming election on Sunday, 8 Feb 2026 GMT+7, will be the first in 15 years where the people's vote will truly lead to government formation. He referenced the last time this happened in 2011.
Thanathorn emphasized that this election is very important because the people's vote will determine the formation of a government by the people. Many have asked if he understands there will be no appointed senators (SENATE), but there is fear about voting for the People's Party due to concerns that the orange bird symbol might lead to the mouse symbol winning, or that the orange bird and the People's Party might support the Bhumjaithai Party again. He was asked if it is true that voting for the People's Party would result in the party supporting Bhumjaithai to form a government. He firmly denied this would happen again.
Thanathorn continued, "Listen carefully: in this election, the People's Party will no longer vote for Mr. Anutin as Prime Minister. Do not believe false news or misinformation intended to confuse citizens. I reaffirm that this is not true. If you vote for the People's Party, you will get Mr. Natthapong Ruangpanyawut, the party leader, as Prime Minister for sure. This is to prevent confusion among the people."
Thanathorn added that in the 2023 election, some claimed that the party was merely an alternative and could not become a major party. He said they have proven with the people that the party is not just an alternative but a main party and is the number one party in Thailand. Although some say it is impossible for the People's Party to form a government this time, it depends on the people.
Thanathorn said his visit to Buriram hopes to win at least one constituency in the stronghold of the Bhumjaithai Party. He is confident the party will receive party-list votes equal to or greater than what the Move Forward Party achieved in the last election, where it won over 200,000 party-list votes and defeated the local dominant party without firing a single bullet.
Following this, Thanathorn and Mr. Phet, People's Party candidate number 1 for Buriram constituency 8, rode a campaign vehicle through the fresh market in Nang Rong municipality to seek votes from vendors and shoppers. The area is currently represented by Mr. Traitep Ngamkamol from the Bhumjaithai Party.
Reporters noted that Mrs. Somjit Kaengkan, aged 84, came to support Thanathorn at the campaign stage despite the cold morning weather, offering blessings and wishing the People's Party success in forming a government.
Meanwhile, Mr. Prawet Puangwatthada, 70, a farmer from Nang Rong district, said he wants to see a political party that does not use money in elections because high spending leads to expecting returns. He desires a Prime Minister who can address economic problems and solve grassroots issues effectively, promote clean energy, and lead without violence, instead using reconciliation methods so that people, both Thais and neighbors, can live together peacefully, bringing happiness to the population.
