Academic Points Out “Khon La Khrueng Plus” Supports Purchasing Power, Urges New Government to Accelerate Sustainable Income Policies

An academic views that “Khon La Khrueng Plus” helps sustain purchasing power during a fragile economic period and advises the new government to accelerate policies for sustainable income generation.

On 8 Jan 2025 GMT+7, Dr. Satithorn Thananitichot, a political science lecturer at Chulalongkorn University, analyzed the “Khon La Khrueng Plus” policy, highlighting it as an effective short-term measure to maintain purchasing power and stabilize the economy during transitions. Its strength lies in being an easily accessible policy with immediate results, directly benefiting small entrepreneurs.

Dr. Satithorn noted that this policy reflects the Bhumjaithai Party's philosophy of focusing on practical policies rather than large, high-risk projects. The policy is simple to use, fits daily life, quickly addresses livelihood issues without awaiting long-term effects, and reduces burdens on systems without creating excessive structural complexity. However, while short-term measures are necessary, he challenges the new government and all political parties to tackle the bigger structural problems awaited by the public.

Dr. Satithorn further proposed that the government pursue three simultaneous dimensions: creating stable incomes, designing concrete policies to reduce inequality, and developing workforce skills to enhance Thai competitiveness. This should connect economic stimulus strategies with overall economic development plans, as short-term policies like Khon La Khrueng Plus are meant to stabilize the situation, but the new government must supplement these with income-generating and structural economic upgrading policies to ensure long-term sustainability.
