"Lawyer Aun" submitted a letter and presented a "broken spear" as a New Year's gift to the Election Commission Secretary, mocking the commission for discovering election fraud but failing to act. He demanded an investigation into Prime Minister Anutin's speech promising to provide money for the Half-Half Plus program if his party returns to power.
On 8 Jan 2026 at 10:30 a.m., on the third floor of Centara Life Hotel, Government Complex and Convention Center, Chaeng Watthana Road, Mr. Phattharaphong Suphakson, also known as Lawyer Aun Buriram, arrived to submit a complaint requesting the Election Commission to investigate Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul's speech promising to provide money through the Half-Half Plus Phase 2 program if his party wins the election. He warned this could violate election laws and called on the commission to ensure the election is conducted honestly and fairly, free from fraud. He presented a gift box holding a pen shaped like himself and a model of a broken spear to Mr. Saweang Boonmee, Secretary-General of the Election Commission. This occurred after Mr. Saweang presided over a meeting between the Election Commission Office and political parties with candidates to clarify guidelines on election campaign advertising and organizing policy debate forums for parliamentary parties.
Lawyer Aun said today he learned that Mr. Saweang was here, so he came to meet him. However, when he arrived, the location for the press interview was changed elsewhere instead of the original spot. He questioned whether he was so detestable, noting that even the commander of the Special Operations Division was allowed to meet but he, from Buriram, the same hometown, has never been granted a meeting. He expressed disappointment but said he would wait to meet Mr. Saweang and had brought gifts to present, insisting he must meet today.
Later, after the Election Commission Secretary completed his duties opening the meeting, as he walked back to the office, Mr. Saweang approached Lawyer Aun. The two shook hands and spoke. Mr. Saweang accepted the letter and gifts—a pencil box, a pen shaped like Lawyer Aun, and a model broken spear—that Lawyer Aun had brought. Mr. Saweang briefly said: "I will keep these on my desk. Let's work together. When you have free time, come see me in my office."
Lawyer Aun stated he came today to submit a letter requesting the Election Commission to ensure the election is conducted honestly and fairly. He urged action against Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, who promised money through the Half-Half program if his party returns to government, expressing concern that this election might lack integrity and be plagued by all forms of fraud. He noted that the enormous funds used in this election have been widely reported and leaked, questioning what measures are in place to prevent such issues. He mentioned allegations that 30% of election money comes from stamp duties, 30% from influential families, and 30% from candidates themselves, and intends to raise all these points.
Regarding Prime Minister Anutin's speech, which suggested he might be violating election law by making promises, Lawyer Aun said he had previously submitted a postal complaint on this matter.
"Today, I wanted to submit the complaint in person and bring a gift from Buriram—a pencil box and a pen shaped like myself—to remind them that before signing any election certification or conditions that might contradict public opinion, like in 2019 and 2023, they should remember I am watching them. Would they still dare to sign the certification? Also, the spear is a weapon of the god Guan Yu, symbolizing justice. But today, the public sees the Election Commission as lacking honesty and fairness, failing to act on election fraud and other cases, like a broken spear. That is why this broken spear symbol is placed on the pencil box. I came knowing Mr. Saweang was here and waited to meet him, but upon arrival, the interview spot was changed to somewhere else. I wonder if I am that detestable. Even the commander of the Special Operations Division is allowed to meet, but I, from Buriram, with gifts in hand, have been denied a meeting. I must meet today, no matter what."
Reporters noted that after Mr. Saweang accepted the gift and gave an interview to the media, he showed the gift to reporters as well.
