Abhisit Visits Yaowarat, Declares Bid to Reclaim Bangkok with Tax Cuts and Support for the Elderly

Abhisit visited Yaowarat to announce his plan to reclaim the capital after two failed attempts, confident that his policies on tax cuts and elderly support will appeal to the public.

On 8 January 2026, Abhisit Vejjajiva, party leader and Democrat Party prime ministerial candidate, led a team to Yaowarat to assist Peerawut Phimsomrudee, candidate for Bangkok MP District 1, number 9, campaigning amid a warm welcome from vendors and citizens.

Abhisit stated he aims to plant his flag to reclaim Bangkok after two consecutive failures. This time, he is confident in the new candidate’s determination and hard work, highlighting policies to win urban voters, including exempting the first 40,000 baht of salary from tax to aid salaried workers, increasing the elderly allowance to 1,000 baht, and a policy to convert homes into lifelong income sources.

The Democrat Party leader added that for freelancers, the focus will be on creating contract security to facilitate easier access to funding. He also announced plans to address environmental issues such as PM 2.5 pollution, reduce electricity and travel costs, and implement a second river excavation project to permanently drain water into the sea to solve recurring flood problems.

He is preparing to hold major campaign rallies at Benjasiri Park on 11 January and at the One Bangkok project on 6 February, confident that the star strategy and candidate team will definitely help reclaim party-list votes.
