Election Commission Tracks Leaked Chat Line on Which Political Party Ordered Media Buys

The Secretary-General of the Election Commission confirmed the issue of the leaked "media purchase chat line." Without receipts, disqualification is likely. He ordered a team to trace which political party issued the orders.

On 9 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Sa-ngaeng Boonmee, Secretary-General of the Election Commission (EC), addressed the scandal involving a leaked chat line naming multiple media outlets in what appeared to be media purchases bypassing official organizations and lacking receipts. He stated that such actions violate legal principles under the Organic Act on Election of Members of the House of Representatives. All political parties and candidates must fully compile their campaign expense details for reporting to the EC. Using media space for campaigning without receipts is impossible under party accounting systems.

The EC Secretary-General affirmed that if concealment of evidence or intentional false reporting is detected, it constitutes a serious offense that could lead to immediate disqualification from voting rights. Regarding the chat line naming various media outlets, the EC requests time for officials to thoroughly verify which political party is involved and whether their actions violate election laws. He emphasized that the EC will conduct a straightforward investigation to ensure this election is as transparent as possible.
