Prime Minister Anutin revealed that the bombings at gas stations in three southern border provinces are seen by security forces as signals consistent with the local elections, not intended as acts of terrorism. He confirmed that the Thai-Cambodian border is peaceful but cautioned against complacency.
At 11:15 a.m. on 11 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, gave an interview at the Or Tor Kor Market in Chatuchak District, Bangkok, regarding the unrest in the three southern border provinces following the arson attacks on over 11 gas stations in the three southern border provinces. He said that the incidents have occurred across all three provinces, and reports indicate no casualties. Security forces view these events as signals aligned with the upcoming local elections and not as acts of terrorism.
Anutin added that, regardless of cause, such incidents will not be tolerated. The Fourth Army Region, the Ninth Provincial Police Region, and local administration are currently working to resolve the issues, with ongoing discussions among responsible parties.
Meanwhile, Anutin also spoke about the latest Thai-Cambodian border situation, saying it is now calm. Thai residents who had evacuated for nearly 20 days returned home around the New Year. Since then, the situation has remained stable with no signs of escalating violence. However, Thailand remains cautious and maintains readiness along the Thai-Cambodian border, continuously monitoring the situation throughout the border area.
