Abhisit pointed out that choosing the Democrat Party means a safe country, pledging to be a copper shield and iron wall against corruption and shadow capital. He emphasized three iron conditions for joining the government coalition, highlighting the banner of Senate reform and independent organizations.
At 12:00 on 12 Jan 2026 GMT+7 at Silom Complex, Abhisit Vejjajiva, leader of the Democrat Party, spoke about Thailand's political direction after the election. He said the next government will be a coalition, and the Democrat Party’s role is to be a key factor guaranteeing the nation's cleanliness and peace. Supporting the party is like creating assurance for Thais that no matter who leads the government, the Democrat Party will act as a copper shield and iron wall seriously combating corruption and shadow capital groups. The party will also prevent divisive issues from causing societal disruption. Asked about coalition possibilities with other parties, Abhisit said the party’s standards rely on facts over suspicion, with three iron conditions: 1) No stain of shadow capital or clear corruption; 2) No domination by any single family prioritizing personal over national interest; 3) No creation of division or use of sensitive issues as political tools.
Regarding constitutional amendments, Abhisit stated the party will push forward on two urgent issues: amending the selection process for senators (Senate) to align more closely with principles accepted by the public, and reforming independent agencies to ensure transparency and accountability to restore public trust. The Democrat Party will seriously oversee these matters to ensure Thai politics progresses with quality and integrity.
