Introducing Rachaporn Chuchuay, a talented female architect with international recognition, newly appointed as cultural policy advisor for the People’s Party’s government management team, promoting the vision that distributing cultural wealth equates to decentralization.
On 12 January 2026, the People’s Party (PPC) unveiled its "People’s Government Management Team" under the campaign The Professionals, including Ms. Rachaporn Chuchuay. She is a lecturer at the Faculty of Architecture, Chulalongkorn University, co-founder and Design Director of studio all(zone), and now serves as cultural policy advisor to the People’s Government management team.
The party highlighted Associate Professor Dr. Rachaporn’s vision: When thinking of Thai culture, the first images that come to mind may be traditional Thai clothing, Thai dance, Thai cuisine, and Muay Thai. Regarding the Ministry of Culture, many might think of promoting soft power, tourism, or Thai films. Thai arts and culture cover a vast and impressive spectrum that fills us with pride, with stories that could be told endlessly.
“Our arts and culture reside within the people themselves.” Ms. Rachaporn, cultural policy advisor for the People’s Government team, suggested that current efforts such as tourism represent only a small fraction of Thailand’s immense cultural capital, often overlooked. With nearly two decades of teaching experience both domestically and abroad, a PhD in architectural history from the University of Tokyo, and as an architect and designer behind Thailand’s first contemporary art museum in Chiang Mai, she also reflected on foreign perspectives on Thailand. Viewing through outsiders’ lenses can reveal hidden beauties more clearly than before. “In fact, the Ministry of Culture doesn’t need to do much—just act as a facilitator.”
Ms. Rachaporn emphasized that Thai culture still has great potential for growth and development if properly supported. In a year when experts warn of a harsh economic environment, it’s time for Thailand to leverage its rich cultural capital. The challenge is to make Thai culture not only marketable but also a robust secret weapon for the nation.
Ms. Rachaporn Chuchuay, nicknamed Aon, earned a bachelor’s degree in architecture from Chulalongkorn University, a master’s degree in architecture from Columbia University in New York City, USA, and a doctorate in architecture from the University of Tokyo, Japan.
Her career includes teaching at the Faculty of Architecture, Chulalongkorn University from 2002 to 2022; serving on the James H.W. Thompson Foundation board; and since 2022, she has been invited as the Louis I. Kahn Assistant Visiting Professor at Yale School of Architecture, USA.
