Fourth Army Commander Accelerates Hunt for Group Behind Southern Border Gas Station Arsons, Believed Linked to Gold Heist but Different Group

The Fourth Army Commander is accelerating efforts to track down the group responsible for bombing and burning 11 gas stations in the three southern border provinces. No leads have been ruled out yet. It is believed the network is connected to the Su-ngai Kolok gold robbery but involves a different group.


12 Jan 2026 GMT+7 Lieutenant General Narathip Poinok, Fourth Army Commander He spoke about progress in the case of perpetrators bombing and burning 11 gas stations across the three southern border provinces, saying military, police, and administrative officials are collaborating to trace the suspects after finding blood stains at one gas station in Cho Airong district, Narathiwat province.

When asked whether the incidents were related to local political issues amid ongoing elections for subdistrict administrative organizations, Lieutenant General Narathip said no lead has been dismissed. Regarding a connection to the gold robbery case in Su-ngai Kolok district, Narathiwat province, late last year, he believes it involves the same network but different perpetrators. Additionally, General Pana Klaewplodtuk, the Army Commander-in-Chief, has instructed authorities to expedite the arrest and prosecution of the offenders.
