Abhisit Rises to Head Chamber of Commerce, Presents 7-Point Roadmap to Transform Economy with Honest Politics

"Abhisit" highlights a 7-point roadmap to transform the economy through "honest politics," while the Chamber of Commerce expresses confidence in the Democrat Party's economic team.,

On 12 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva, leader of the Democrat Party, along with Mr. Korn Chatikavanij and the full economic team, met with Mr. Phot Aramwattanon, chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, to present the strategy "Transforming Thailand's Economy." The plan emphasizes changing the government's role to that of an "Enabler" supporting the private sector through three principles: guiding, opening, and not obstructing. They also announced a Guillotine law to urgently repeal regulations that hinder business operations.

Mr. Abhisit proposed a 7-point roadmap to accelerate Thailand's economic progress to surpass neighboring countries, including bureaucratic reform, using Fintech to manage state assets, positioning Thailand as a healthcare hub, and adopting clean energy to reduce electricity costs to 3.5 baht. He also highlighted the "Open State" policy using AI to monitor corruption in all aspects. He stressed that economic advancement must go hand in hand with "honest politics" to sustainably build confidence among domestic and international investors.

"The Democrat Party focuses on transforming the state from a regulator to an economic partner and building an honest society as a solid foundation to attract global investment," Mr. Abhisit said.

The Chamber of Commerce expressed confidence in the Democrat Party's economic team's experience and conveyed hopes for eradicating "gray capital" that infiltrates politics and undermines the country's competitiveness. The meeting agreed that this strategy will succeed only if based on transparency, which is key to advancing Thailand's economy toward becoming an OECD member.
