Cabinet Approves 2.203 Billion Baht Budget to Aid Flood Victims

The Cabinet meeting resolved to approve an additional central budget allocation of 2,203,445,900 baht in fiscal year 2026 to aid 243,577 households affected by flooding.

On 14 January 2026, a reporter reported that yesterday (13 Jan 26), Mr. Siripong Angkasulkiat, spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister, disclosed that the Cabinet approved an additional budget framework from the fiscal year 2026 central budget, under the contingency reserve fund for emergencies or necessities, totaling 2,203,445,900 baht. This follows the Cabinet resolution dated 9 December 2025, as proposed by the Ministry of Interior through the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation. The Department is designated as the budget recipient and will disburse aid to affected individuals via the Government Savings Bank, with disbursements under general subsidies and allowing cross-provincial fund transfers.

The spokesperson for the Office of the Prime Minister stated that the number of flood-affected households qualifying under the Cabinet's criteria exceeds the number previously approved within the budget framework. Currently, there remain 243,577 verified households awaiting assistance payments totaling 2,211,289,000 baht. Therefore, additional budget support of 2,203,445,900 baht is requested to cover these payments. At present, only 7,843,100 baht remains available for aid disbursement to flood victims.

After the Cabinet's approval, the Secretariat of the Cabinet or designated agencies will submit the proposal to the Election Commission for approval of the central budget under the contingency reserve fund, pursuant to the Cabinet resolution dated 16 December 2025, as referenced in document 7. Once the Election Commission grants approval, the Ministry of Interior, through the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, will prepare an operational plan and budget expenditure plan to formalize an agreement with the Budget Bureau following established procedures.
