Nattapong expressed his condolences to all families of the victims in the crane collapse on the train in Sikhiu, Nakhon Ratchasima. He emphasized the need to focus on the root cause: a large-scale project with a huge budget but inadequate construction safety. He stressed the necessity of independent inspectors to conduct additional checks.
14 Jan 2026 GMT+7 Nattapong Ruangpanyawut, leader of the Prachachon Party and prime ministerial candidate, commented on the crane collapse incident on a train in Sikhiu district, Nakhon Ratchasima. He said this morning that he wishes to express his condolences regarding the incident. He learned that 22 people died and many were injured. We never want such tragedies to happen. However, what he believes is important is that we must work to bring about change and improve safety for people’s lives and property in the future. This concerns large-scale construction projects, which are government projects that go through procurement processes and involve massive national budgets, but whose safety and construction quality standards may still be insufficient.
Nattapong added that similar incidents have occurred many times before. He does not want us to repeat the same lessons but wants to focus on fixing the root cause: how to ensure government procurement processes are transparent and of high quality, with inspectors and independent observers overseeing large government projects to prevent such incidents from happening again in the future. He offered his support to the families of all the victims.
