Prime Minister Rushes to Site of Crane Collapse on Si Khio Train, Assures Full Government Support for Victims

Prime Minister Anutin rushed to the site of a crane collapse onto a train in Si Khio district, affirming the government's full support for the deceased and injured. Rescue teams are gradually transporting bodies for identification. The death toll is 32, with 3 missing and 64 injured.

On 14 January 2026, around 17:00 at the morgue of Maharaj Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital in Mueang district, Nakhon Ratchasima province, rescue teams from Huk 31 Nakhon Ratchasima, Sawang Metta Thammasathan Foundation, and Phrom Thammasathan Foundation in Si Khio district have been bringing the bodies of victims from the crane collapse onto the high-speed train carrying diesel rail express No. 21 on the Bangkok-Ubon Ratchathani route.

At 17:10, the Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Public Health Office reported that the accident resulted in 67 injured, 32 dead, and 3 missing. The incident occurred earlier at 09:13.

Further reports from the morgue at Maharaj Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital said rescue officials have brought in 21 bodies for individual identification by doctors, as most victims were in the second passenger carriage, which was burned and crushed by the crane, making identification difficult and lacking any personal documents. Doctors expect identification to take about 3-4 days. Another 11 bodies remain at Si Khio Hospital, awaiting relatives to claim them for traditional funeral rites.

. Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul Alongside Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, traveled to the accident scene to inquire about the crane collapse from engineers and involved parties. They were welcomed by Nakhon Ratchasima Governor Anupong Suksamanit, Police Major General Narongsak Promtha, Commander of the Nakhon Ratchasima Provincial Police, and representatives of Italian-Thai Development, the contractor for the high-speed rail project.

. The Prime Minister then visited and offered condolences to the families searching for missing victims at the site, pledging that the government would provide full assistance to the deceased and injured. He later received a briefing on the incident from relevant parties and ordered an urgent investigation to find those responsible and to expedite aid to the victims immediately.
