Deputy Secretary-General of the Election Commission Apologizes for Errors in Overseas Parliamentary Candidate Documents, Promises Swift Corrections

The Deputy Secretary-General of the Election Commission apologized for errors in documents listing parliamentary candidates for the overseas election and explained that corrections have been urgently made and the updated documents sent back to embassies and consulates in each country.

At 19:30 on 14 Jan 2026 at the Election Commission office, Acting Lt. Pasakorn Siriphakayaporn, Deputy Secretary-General of the Election Commission, explained that documents listing constituency parliamentary candidates sent by the Election Commission to 95 Thai embassies and 67 consulates worldwide for overseas elections contained errors in several constituencies. These included duplicate candidate photos and inaccuracies in political party names. He stated that these issues were identified through joint checks between the Election Commission and the embassies and consulates. Corrections have been urgently implemented since 11 Jan and the revised documents sent back to all embassies and consulates.

Regarding discrepancies between the documents and information in the Smart Vote application, Acting Lt. Pasakorn said that election district directors have been consulted to verify and promptly correct any errors. Since the data involves multiple components, efforts are ongoing to ensure all information is accurate. The Election Commission apologizes for any inconvenience caused to all parties involved.

Acting Lt. Pasakorn confirmed that the constituency candidate information documents for the overseas election have now been fully corrected and are ready for voters in each city to review before postal voting, as arranged by the respective embassies and consulates. He also encouraged all eligible overseas voters to verify candidate information via the Smart Vote application as an additional resource.
