Sudarat Points to Crane Collapses on Rama 2 and Sikhiu as Reflections of Corruption, Demands Government Action This Week

Sudarat pointed out that the crane collapses on Rama 2 and in Sikhiu reflect corruption. She urged the government to stop ignoring the issue before being charged with complicity, declaring that this week they must drag the financiers and corrupt individuals to jail to take responsibility for Thai lives.

On 15 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan, the Prime Minister candidate from the Thai Sang Thai Party, commented on the repeated construction tragedies, especially the crane collapses on Rama 2 Road and in Sikhiu district, Nakhon Ratchasima province, which caused massive loss of life and property. She stated these incidents clearly reveal abnormalities in administration and corruption. Despite multiple collapses on Rama 2, the government has let the issue fade away as if nothing happened, never seriously punishing or effectively addressing the problem.

The problem is not only the surprisingly poor construction quality, but fundamentally the contractor selection process, which may involve kickbacks or corruption that prevent funds from being fully used to ensure safety. This results in unqualified contractors with connections taking on the work, causing hundreds of deaths across various incidents. The Thai government can no longer allow such matters to be brushed aside as before, because the damage is beyond apologies or temporary suspensions.

Khunying Sudarat further questioned and demanded that the government take clear action this week, dragging those involved—both financiers and corrupt contractors—to jail. If the government remains silent or lets the matter fade away as usual, the public will see it as complicit with these financiers and may suspect it has continuously favored companies without standards. Therefore, it is time to act decisively to restore justice for the victims and establish true safety standards for the Thai people once and for all.
