Sihasak Sets Goal for Economic Diplomacy to Encourage Ambassadors Proactive Economic Work

Sihasak, Bhumjaithai's prime ministerial candidate, sets a goal for 'economic diplomacy' to have ambassadors actively engage in economic work. He advises not to limit themselves to two major powers but to maintain good relations with other blocs to help balance power.

On 16 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Sihasak Puangketkaew, Bhumjaithai's prime ministerial candidate, discussed a national economic diplomacy approach. He emphasized finding new markets, including Central Asia, and supporting free trade negotiations. Most importantly, he wants ambassadors to work proactively in economic matters, understanding what Thailand can sell, which markets to target, and new technologies to drive new economic engines. Ambassadors should access key companies at high levels to open economic opportunities for Thailand amid rapid global changes. Diplomacy must keep pace with the world's shifts. Thailand must avoid taking sides, strive for balance, but maintain clear stances. While not always neutral, Thailand should have the courage to take positions, avoid conflicts when possible, but stand firm when national interests are at stake.

"We must follow where our interests lie. The world is multipolar, so we should not limit ourselves to just two power centers. We should maintain good relations with others, such as India, Japan, the EU, Australia, and South Korea. Having good relations helps balance these powers, providing more options. Currently, there is a new policy called 'Thailand to Africa' because many African countries are no longer underdeveloped as before; many are rising and experiencing economic growth."
