Government Clarifies Flood Relief Payment Controversy, Affirms Ongoing Efforts to Expedite Disbursement

The government spokesperson addressed the controversy, affirming that the government has neither stopped nor delayed payments of flood relief funds. Recently, it approved an additional 2.2 billion baht from the central budget to support flood victims.

On 16 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Mr. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, spokesperson of the Office of the Prime Minister, clarified that the government has not stopped or delayed flood relief payments contrary to circulating reports.

The spokesperson stated that Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul has been closely monitoring and directing relevant agencies to expedite the disbursement of aid to those affected by the floods as quickly as possible. He ordered the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) to speed up the payments and instructed the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives to urgently assist and rehabilitate farmers whose crops and fields were damaged by the flooding.

During the Cabinet meeting last Tuesday, an additional 2.2 billion baht from the mid-year 2026 central budget was approved to further aid flood victims. This proposal is currently under review by the Election Commission for approval.
