Tawee Sodsong affirmed he never interfered in the Senate vote-rigging case, urging reflection on the extensive powers of Senators that require transparency and oversight. He noted the Election Commission filed the charges and the case must proceed as it remains within the statute of limitations.
On 17 Jan 2026 GMT+7, Pol. Col. Tawee Sodsong, leader and prime ministerial candidate of the Prachachart Party and former Minister of Justice, spoke about the Senate vote-rigging case. He said, as he has stated before, society can only thrive with the rule of law, meaning everyone must be equally subject to legal enforcement. This is the constitutional definition of the rule of law. Anyone who breaks the law, regardless of who they are or which institution they belong to—even courts or legislatures—must face the law. If those in power do not uphold the rule of law both physically and mentally, the country faces difficulties. Looking closely, Senators hold significant power, and with such power comes the need for oversight.
Pol. Col. Tawee added that regarding the Senate vote-rigging case, when he was Minister of Justice and the case arose, the Special Case Committee investigated and found unusual financial flows suspected to be money laundering. Although it had not yet been classified as a special case, investigations proceeded. During his tenure, no charges were filed. Later, the Election Commission filed charges. Subsequently, Senators petitioned the Constitutional Court. While respecting its rulings, during hearings he was told by investigators that over 200 individuals had been charged by the Election Commission. He questioned how he could have interfered or harassed them. The Election Commission is an independent agency and he has no personal connection to it. Everything depends on evidence. Importantly, as a minister, he must not allow anyone to interfere with the case or the civil servants involved, nor interfere himself. The process must follow facts and evidence with dignity. Since the case remains within the statute of limitations, it must continue. No one should be above the law in any matter.
