2026 Election Poll: Chiang Mai Residents Support Teng Nattapong as Prime Minister, Plan to Vote for Peoples Party MPs

NIDA Poll surveyed Chiang Mai residents ahead of the 2026 election, showing support for Teng Nattapong as prime minister candidate. Yossanan followed in second place. For MP elections, the People's Party ranks first in both constituency and party-list votes, with Pheu Thai Party second.


On 18 Jan 2026, the NIDA Poll Center of the National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA) released results of a survey titled “The 2026 Election in Chiang Mai.” The survey was conducted from 9-14 Jan 2026 among 1,067 residents aged 18 or older, eligible to vote in Chiang Mai, covering all education levels, occupations, and income groups.

When asked about the person Chiang Mai residents would support as prime minister today, the findings were

  • First place, 31.40%, named Mr. Nattapong Ruangpanyawut (People's Party).
  • Second place, 19.40%, named Mr. Yossanan Wongsawat (Pheu Thai Party).
  • Third place, 15.65%, named Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul (Bhumjaithai Party).
  • Fourth place, 12.09%, indicated they had not found a suitable candidate yet.
  • Fifth place, 4.12%, named Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva (Democrat Party).
  • Sixth place, 3.66%, named General Rangsi Kitiyansap (Economic Party).
  • Seventh place, 3.19%, named Mr. Julaphan Amornwiwat (Pheu Thai Party).
  • Eighth place, 2.53%, named Khunying Sudarat Keyuraphan (Thai Sang Thai Party).
  • Ninth place, 1.78%, named Ms. Sirikanya Tansakul (People's Party).
  • Tenth place, 1.03%, named Dr. Suchatvee Suwansawat (Thai Khao Mai Party).
  • Five point fifteen percent named others, including Mr. Suriya Jungrungreangkit (Pheu Thai Party), General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Mr. Peeraphan Salirathavibhaga (United Thai Nation Party), Police General Sereepisuth Temeeyaves (Seri Ruam Thai Party), Captain Thammanat Prompao (Kla Tham Party), Mr. Weerayut Kanchuchat (People's Party), Ms. Kochaporn Veroj (Kao Isara Party), Mr. Jatuporn Buruspat (New Opportunity Party), Dr. Warong Dechgitvigrom (Thai Pakdee Party), Mr. Korn Chatikavanij (Democrat Party), Mr. Kanwee Suebsang (Plawad Party), Mr. Sihasak Puangketkaew (Bhumjaithai Party), Mr. Chuan Leekpai (Democrat Party), Dr. Krai Dabthamm (Pheu Thai Party), Mrs. Supachai Suthamphan, and those who chose not to vote (Vote No).

Regarding the political parties Chiang Mai residents tend to vote for in constituency MP elections, the results showed

  • First place, 37.39%, chose the People's Party.
  • Second place, 31.68%, chose Pheu Thai Party.
  • Third place, 13.50%, chose Bhumjaithai Party.
  • Fourth place, 5.15%, were undecided.
  • Fifth place, 4.03%, chose Democrat Party.
  • Sixth place, 2.81%, chose Economic Party.
  • Seventh place, 1.69%, chose Thai Sang Thai Party. Three point seventy-five percent named others including Kla Tham Party, Thai Khao Mai Party, United Thai Nation Party, Seri Ruam Thai Party, New Opportunity Party, Kao Isara Party, Thai Pakdee Party, Plawad Party,
  • and those who chose not to vote (Vote No).

  • First place, 37.39%, chose the People's Party.
  • Second place, 30.08%, chose Pheu Thai Party.
  • Third place, 14.06%, chose Bhumjaithai Party.
  • Fourth place, 5.25%, were undecided.
  • Fifth place, 3.85%, chose Democrat Party.
  • Sixth place, 3.09%, chose Economic Party.
  • Seventh place, 1.69%, chose Thai Sang Thai Party.
  • Eighth place, 1.31%, chose United Thai Nation Party.
  • Ninth place, 1.03%, chose Thai Khao Mai Party.
  • One point eighty-eight percent named others including Kla Tham Party, Seri Ruam Thai Party, Kao Isara Party, New Opportunity Party, Thai Pakdee Party, Puangchon Thai Party, Plawad Party, Palang Pracharath Party, and those who chose not to vote (Vote No). Additionally, 0.37% did not respond or were not interested.
