Election 69 Faces 32 Fraud Complaints Secretary-General of the Election Commission Orders Campaign Against Vote-Buying

The Secretary-General of the Election Commission ordered officials to campaign against the public choosing candidates who distribute money to buy votes and to refuse such money, pointing out that this threatens the nation and democracy. So far, there have been 32 complaints of election fraud.

On 19 January 2026 at 08:00 at the Election Commission office, Mr. Saweang Boonmee, Secretary-General of the Election Commission, sent a message via the commission's official LINE group to all officials stating that there is widespread public criticism regarding vote-buying in the 69 election. He noted that encouraging voter turnout is no longer a concern because the current turnout appears to exceed 75%, higher than the 66 election.

"Therefore, both central and regional offices should not only promote voter turnout but focus on encouraging honest voting—not choosing candidates because they offer money or accepting money. Accepting money carries penalties and is a threat to the nation and democratic system," he said.

Mr. Saweang also stated that investigations should emphasize prevention and deterrence of such actions in a concrete way, which will benefit the country and enhance the office's reputation.

It was reported that there have been 32 complaints related to the election so far in this election.
